The Limits of Conventional Security

Most people trust antivirus software to protect their PCs from every attack. But antivirus alone is vulnerable to increasingly sophisticated new and variant malware, because it works after the fact: it cleans up computers that are already infected.

Zero Day The period when new malware is active and causing damage before anyone has discovered it

Against unknown and ever-evolving attacks, the best defense is preemptive blocking.

The Evolution of Ransomware

  1. Locker ransomware
  2. Encrypting ransomware
  3. Data theft, then encryption
  4. Data theft, then extortion

Ransomware keeps evolving, which is why behavior-based and signature-based defenses struggle to keep up.

How is DocStory different from other products?

DocStory is a whitelist-based solution. It blocks unauthorized processes that are not on the whitelist from accessing data before anything happens, so it stops not only ransomware but any malicious action, including data leakage, deletion, tampering and forgery.

Whitelist solutions are known for the hassle of registering countless processes one by one. Has that been solved?

Windows processes and processes with a valid digital signature are whitelisted automatically by the engine, so most processes used on a PC never need to be registered. Only the few processes that pose a security risk have to be managed. We have cut the heavy management load, the main drawback of whitelist solutions, by more than 90%.

How can the agent be installed?

Users can download the installer in a browser and install it manually. If needed, the agent can also be installed silently (stealth installation, without user interaction) through a patch management system (PMS) or similar tools.

Does the agent slow down the PC?

In normal operation the agent uses 0% CPU and no more than 5 MB of memory. Installing the agent does not degrade PC performance.
